How it works

Tipping customs vary a lot. In the USA and Canada a tip of 15–20% is expected and makes up a big part of staff pay. In much of Europe, rounding up or leaving 5–10% is plenty. In Japan and South Korea, tipping isn't expected at all.

Pick the country and enter your bill in the local currency to see the suggested tip and total. Look out for service charges already on the bill.

Worked examples

  • USA, $80 bill → Suggested tip (18–20%): 14.4 USD – 16 USD · Total with tip: 94.4 USD – 96 USD
  • Spain, €45 bill → Suggested tip (5–10%): 2.25 EUR – 4.5 EUR · Total with tip: 47.25 EUR – 49.5 EUR
  • Japan → Suggested tip: Not expected · Total to pay: 6,000 JPY
  • Dubai, 300 AED → Suggested tip (10–15%): 30 AED – 45 AED · Total with tip: 330 AED – 345 AED
