How it works
Most countries outside the UK and USA use kilometres. To turn km into miles, multiply by 0.621 (or roughly ×5 ÷ 8). Common European speed limits are 50 km/h in towns (31 mph), 90 km/h on main roads (56 mph) and 120–130 km/h on motorways (75–81 mph).
Hire cars abroad often show fuel economy in litres per 100km. Lower is better: 5 L/100km is about 56.5 mpg in UK gallons.
Worked examples
- 130 km/h motorway limit → Result: 80.8 mph
- 50 km/h town limit → Result: 31.1 mph
- 250 km → miles → Result: 155.3 miles
- 6 L/100km → mpg → Result: 47.1 mpg (UK)
